Klicka Lab Research
Broadly, my fields of expertise are in evolutionary biology and population genomics of birds. Therefore, I use genetic data to evaluate the systematics, hybridization, population demography, and adaptation of avian (predominantly) systems. I strongly believe in the value of collections-based research and have maintained a strong relationship with the collection at the University of Kansas whom I have collaborated on multiple Nebraska-based field expeditions. Our ability to generate genomic datasets for almost any organism has made developing computer programming skills an essential component for those pursuing careers in many biological fields. Fortunately, given the growing importance of computer-based skills, the tutorials for mastering these topics have greatly improved and can significantly curtail the steep learning curve often encountered when developing these skills. As a student in my lab, you will have the opportunity to generate and analyze genomic data, collect specimens in the field, and be involved in the publication process.
